Who doesn’t like new gadg?! I’m certain some triathletes (not me, obviously) are only in it because of all the cool toys you get to play with! The latest addition is, now I’ve used them, one of those pieces of kit I wish I bought sooner. A ‘decent‘ pair of headphones for running. My previous £8 pair from Tesco have been placed in the round filing cabinet in the corner.
I seem to have massive ears and have had trouble finding in-ears’ that fit comfortably and stay in my ear when running. After my first run I am impressed…

One of the most important criteria for me personally – a comfortable earbud that stays put no matter how hard I train. When I first tried them on with the buds the factory put on I thought ‘oh no’ – not another piece of technology that was not going to fit my ears. Like many other brands, the Flex comes with different sized earbuds, including XL apparently, which fitted my ear perfectly. The buds, once changed, offered a super snug, yet incredibly comfortable fit with the over the ear hooks and are so light (18 grams), you can barely feel you are wearing them.
Unlike many sport headphones you can tell in an instant that these have been designed with comfort and durability in mind. The earpieces themselves look and feel robust, as does the mic/remote control and all cabling and connections. The non-tangle cable really works well. Functional soft-touch silicone combines with highly durable plastic in bright green and matte grey to give everything a funky look.
Some reviews comment on the lack of bass – but I think that may be partly due to personal preferences and perhaps fit. Personally I find the audio quality really good – well balanced sound with clear highs, and plenty of bass for me – enough to motivate me to work hard. They also do a good job blocking out ambient noise which is helpful.
The Flex earphones come with a soft case which offers plenty of room for earphones, cable and my iPod. You also get four differing sizes of ear buds so these should fit most people. Being accredited as IPX5 waterproof you’re OK washing them clean after use!
All in all a truly impressive piece of kit. Perfect fit. Great audio. Good value for a mid-price point setup. Recommend.
