The last week has been hectic with family, work and trying to fit in training…again!
One of my goals is to revert from speed training back to base building which means lots of long aerobic running. I’ve started using the Dr Maffetone 180 method (minus your age from 180 and train at that BPM) it seems is paying dividends. Two years ago I went into the season having spent months smashing our PBs all over the place, but I developed Achilles tendinitis. Very bad. A post here in the offing I think…
The other goal at the moment is starting, slowly, to rebuild lean muscle mass focusing mainly on my lower body and core. Lots of dead lifts, squats, leg extensions, bent over rows etc… I’ve also revisited my nutrition so I can max out my recovery and power in the gym – see my patented cucumber/chick chick snacky (cover photo)! Last season I focused heavily on resistance training in order to own the climbs and avoid the injury gain the season before. I suffered with cramps on the run of my first triathlon…another post there perhaps!
I’m also visiting a chiropractor to sort out a long standing shoulder injury gained in the gym about 15 years ago. It’s suprising how quickly my shoulder is responding to treatment, considering how long I’ve been carrying the injury. The pic is dry needling…oww!!
Save the best til last…I was contacted by a film maker who wants to capture my story this week! Bizarre. More on this if/when it develops.
